Description

The Knightsbridge 10AX fan isolator switch provides triple-pole switching for independent fan control in bathroom and utility room installations. The switch sits behind a brushed chrome screwless faceplate with a matching metal rocker, labelled 'FAN ISOLATOR' with clear ON/OFF markings. The triple-pole configuration allows the fan circuit to be isolated without affecting the lighting circuit, which is particularly useful in bathrooms where the fan and light are often wired together but need to be controlled separately.

Designed for en-suite bathrooms, family bathrooms, utility rooms and WCs where an extractor fan requires a dedicated isolation point, the switch fits a 16mm minimum back box depth — shallower than most other switches. This shallow depth allows installation on cavity walls and stud partitions where deeper back boxes are difficult to accommodate. The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box, leaving no visible fixings on the wall once installed.

The brushed chrome finish is produced on premium-grade steel with a directional brushed texture that softens reflections and resists fingerprints better than polished finishes. The 87.5mm square faceplate sits 4.3mm proud of the wall once fitted, giving a low-profile finish that works in both contemporary and traditional bathroom schemes. A built-in gasket between the faceplate and the wall improves moisture resistance, though the IP20 rating limits the switch to Zone 3 positions in bathrooms (more than 600mm from the edge of a bath or shower). The switch is rated to EN 60669-1 and EN 60669-2-4 and carries a 25-year warranty.

Frequently Asked

What is a triple-pole fan isolator and why is it needed?

A triple-pole switch isolates the live, neutral and switched-live connections, allowing a fan to be isolated independently from the lighting circuit. This is particularly useful in bathrooms where the fan and light are often wired together but the fan needs to be serviced or replaced without affecting the lighting.

What back box depth is required?

A 16mm minimum back box depth is required. This is shallower than most switches, making it suitable for cavity walls and stud partitions where deeper boxes are difficult to fit.

Can this be used in a bathroom shower area?

The IP20 rating limits the switch to Zone 3 positions in bathrooms — more than 600mm horizontally from the edge of a bath or shower. It cannot be installed within the shower enclosure or directly above a bath.

Is the screwless plate removable for redecorating?

Yes. The cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting around the switch and re-clipped without re-wiring.
