Description

The Knightsbridge 10AX fan isolator switch provides triple-pole isolation for bathroom extractor fans, utility room ventilation and other fan circuits requiring safe shutdown for maintenance. The switch isolates the fan circuit while keeping the lighting circuit active, allowing independent control of fan power supply separate from room lighting.

Designed for bathroom and utility room installation, the switch meets EN 60669-1 and EN 60669-2-4 certification standards and carries an IP20 rating for indoor dry-location use. The triple-pole configuration cuts live, neutral and switching live, providing complete isolation when servicing or replacing fan units. The switch fits a minimum 16mm back box depth, making it compatible with standard UK shallow back boxes where wall cavity depth is limited.

The faceplate is premium-grade steel with a brushed chrome finish and square-edge profile. The brushed surface texture reduces fingerprint visibility compared to polished chrome and pairs with both modern and traditional bathroom fittings. The 89mm x 89mm single-gang footprint fits standard UK wiring accessory spacing, and the visible fixing screws allow straightforward installation and future removal if redecorating around the switch.

Frequently Asked

What is a fan isolator switch used for?

A fan isolator allows safe shutdown of an extractor fan circuit for maintenance, cleaning or replacement without affecting the bathroom or utility room lighting circuit. Building regulations often require fan isolators to be fitted outside the bathroom zone for safe access when servicing the fan.

What does triple-pole mean?

Triple-pole switching isolates live, neutral and the switching live conductor simultaneously. This provides complete circuit isolation compared to single-pole switches that only cut the live feed, making it safer for fan servicing and replacement.

What back box depth is required?

The switch requires a minimum 16mm back box depth. This shallow requirement makes it suitable for installations where wall cavity depth is limited, such as dot-and-dab plasterboard over solid walls.

Can this be installed in a bathroom?

The IP20 rating means the switch is suitable for indoor dry locations only. It should be installed outside bathroom zones as defined by BS 7671 wiring regulations, typically in a hallway or landing adjacent to the bathroom rather than inside the room itself.
