Description

The Knightsbridge 10AX 3-gang 2-way switch provides independent control of three separate lighting circuits, with each gang rated at 10A for a combined maximum load of 2,300W per circuit on 230V mains. The 2-way switching allows control from two separate locations, making it suitable for staircases, hallways and rooms with multiple entry points.

Designed for contemporary residential and light commercial installation, the switch fits a 16mm minimum back box depth and projects just 2.5mm from the wall once fitted, creating an almost flush appearance on the mounting surface. The square faceplate measures 87.5mm on each edge, matching standard UK single-gang dimensions. The built-in gasket behind the plate seals against dust ingress and provides an IP20 rating suitable for dry indoor environments.

The brushed chrome finish on the steel faceplate shows a directional grain that softens reflections and hides fingerprints better than polished chrome, while the matching brushed chrome metal rockers maintain a consistent finish across the entire switch front. The steel construction and premium-grade components carry a 25-year warranty. Installation requires standard UK wiring practice, with an earth terminal included on the mounting frame.

What's the difference between 1-way and 2-way switching?

A 2-way switch allows control of the same light from two separate locations, such as at both ends of a hallway or at the top and bottom of a staircase. A 1-way switch controls the light from a single location only. This 3-gang 2-way switch provides six terminals per gang to enable the 2-way wiring configuration.

What back box depth is required?

A 16mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. The ultra-low profile flat plate adds just 2.5mm of projection from the wall once fitted, making it suitable for shallow cavity walls.

What's the maximum load per gang?

Each gang is rated at 10AX, which means 10 amperes on 230V AC mains, equivalent to a maximum load of 2,300W per circuit. The rating applies to each gang independently, not as a combined total across all three gangs.

Can the plate be removed for decorating?

Yes. The flat plate is fixed with visible screws at the top and bottom edges. Remove the screws to lift the plate away from the wall for painting or wallpapering, then refit once the wall is dry.
