Description

The Knightsbridge 10AX 1-gang 2-way switch features a polished chrome flat plate with a matching polished chrome rocker and an ultra-low 2.5mm projection from the wall. The 10AX rating supports 2,300W of switching load on 230V mains, handling standard domestic lighting circuits including circuits with multiple light fittings or higher-wattage halogen downlights.

Two-way switching allows the same light or lighting circuit to be controlled from two separate switch positions, making this suitable for rooms with two entrances such as hallways, staircases, living rooms with front and back doors, and bedrooms with door and bedside control points. The flat plate design uses a single-piece steel faceplate with the rocker mounted flush to the surface, giving a minimal profile compared to traditional raised-plate switches.

The polished chrome finish provides a mirror-like reflective surface that pairs with modern, contemporary and chrome-accented bathrooms, kitchens and living spaces. The premium-grade steel construction resists tarnishing and wear over time. The switch requires a minimum 16mm mounting box depth, shallower than the 25mm standard box depth, making it compatible with installations where wall cavity depth is limited or where the switch is being retrofitted into shallow partition walls.

A built-in gasket sits between the faceplate and the mounting box, preventing dust and debris ingress behind the plate and ensuring a flush fit against the wall surface. The switch is rated IP20 for indoor dry-location use and certified to EN 60669-1 for electrical safety.

Frequently Asked

What is the difference between 1-way and 2-way switching?

A 2-way switch allows the same light to be controlled from two separate switch locations, such as at opposite ends of a hallway or at a door and bedside. A 1-way switch controls a light from a single position only. This is a 2-way switch, meaning it can be paired with another 2-way switch to create dual-control lighting.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 16mm mounting box depth is required. This is shallower than the standard 25mm box, making the switch suitable for shallow partition walls or retrofit installations where cavity depth is limited.

What does 10AX rating mean?

10AX indicates a 10-amp switching capacity on alternating current (AC), which translates to 2,300W at 230V. This rating is suitable for standard domestic lighting circuits including those with multiple fittings or higher-wattage halogen downlights.

Can the polished chrome finish be cleaned?

Yes. Wipe with a soft, dry microfibre cloth to remove fingerprints and surface marks. For stubborn marks, a barely-damp cloth with water is acceptable, but avoid spray cleaners, polishes or abrasive materials which can damage the chrome finish over time.
