Description

The Knightsbridge EX5TMB is a 100mm diameter extractor fan with an integrated LED backlight surround and an adjustable overrun timer. The fan extracts at 23 litres per second (83m³/hr) through a 102mm diameter ducting outlet, handling typical bathroom and ensuite ventilation requirements. The LED surround casts a soft glow around the perimeter of the matt black grille during operation, though this is decorative accent lighting rather than a primary light source.

Designed for surface mounting on walls or ceilings, the fan measures 157.6mm square on the faceplate with a 48.7mm projection from the wall and a 78.4mm recessed depth into the ceiling cavity or wall void. The motor runs at 28.5-30dBA at 3 metres distance, placing it below the threshold for sleep disruption and making it suitable for ensuites adjacent to bedrooms. The overrun timer can be set between 2 and 30 minutes, allowing the fan to continue clearing residual moisture after the light switch is turned off.

The fan carries an IP45 rating, making it suitable for installation in bathroom Zone 1 (the area within 60cm of a shower head or above a bath). It is double-insulated (Class II), meaning it does not require an earth connection during wiring. The ABS construction resists moisture and the matt black finish pairs with contemporary bathroom hardware and black tapware. The fan complies with Part F (ventilation) and Part L (energy efficiency) of UK Building Regulations and carries a 3-year manufacturer warranty.

Is the LED backlight bright enough to use as a bathroom light?

No. The LED surround is decorative accent lighting that casts a soft glow around the fan grille during operation. It is not designed to replace or supplement a bathroom ceiling light or downlight.

What duct size does it require?

The fan requires a 102mm diameter cut-out and connects to 100mm diameter flexible or rigid ducting. Maximum recommended duct length is 2 metres before extraction performance begins to drop.

Can it be used in a shower cubicle?

The IP45 rating makes it suitable for bathroom Zone 1, which includes areas within 60cm of a shower head or above a bath. It can be ceiling-mounted above a shower or wall-mounted adjacent to one, but should not be installed directly in the path of water spray.

How is the overrun timer set?

The timer is adjustable via a dial or switch on the fan body (see the product specification sheet for exact adjustment method). The default setting is 2 minutes, and it can be adjusted up to 30 minutes to allow the fan to continue clearing moisture after the bathroom light is switched off.
