Description

The Knightsbridge 1-gang touchless switch uses a gesture sensor to control lighting without physical contact, triggered by hand movement within 3cm of the faceplate. The switch pairs a brushed chrome screwless cover plate with a low-profile design measuring 87.5mm square and projecting just 4.3mm from the wall once fitted.

Designed for bathrooms, kitchens, healthcare environments and any location where reducing surface contact is beneficial, the switch requires a neutral wire connection and fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth. The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate sub-frame, leaving no visible fixings on the wall. A built-in gasket between the plate and the wall provides a clean seal.

The 201 stainless steel construction with a brushed chrome finish offers corrosion resistance and pairs with contemporary and clinical interiors. The sensor responds to movement rather than touch, so the switch can be operated with wet hands, gloves, or without direct skin contact. Rated IP20 for indoor use only, the switch handles standard 230V 50Hz lighting circuits.

Does the switch require a neutral wire?

Yes. The touchless sensor requires a permanent neutral connection to power the detection circuit. Standard UK lighting circuits in properties built after 2004 usually have neutral wires at switch positions, but older installations may need rewiring to add one.

How close does your hand need to be to trigger the sensor?

The sensor detects hand movement up to 3cm from the faceplate. This range is calibrated to avoid accidental triggering from movement across the room while still allowing operation without direct contact.

Can the switch be used in bathrooms?

The IP20 rating means the switch is suitable for indoor dry locations only. It can be used in bathrooms outside shower enclosures and bath zones, but must not be installed within zones 0, 1 or 2 as defined by BS 7671 wiring regulations.

Is the screwless plate removable for redecorating?

Yes. The brushed chrome cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting around the switch and re-clipped without re-wiring or disturbing the sensor mechanism.
