Description
The Knightsbridge 1-gang grid faceplate is an 87.75mm square matt black steel plate with rounded edges, designed to house a single grid module from Knightsbridge's modular grid system. The faceplate acts as the visible outer frame that clips onto a separate mounting grid, allowing switches, sockets, dimmers or data modules to be configured behind a single flush-mounted cover.
Grid faceplates are used where multiple functions need to be grouped in a single location without installing several separate cover plates — common in commercial fit-outs, hotel rooms, AV control panels and residential installations where clean lines matter. The 1-gang size accommodates one grid module (switch, socket, dimmer, data port or blank) and fits a standard 25mm back box. The rounded edge softens the visual profile against the wall compared to square-edged alternatives.
The matt black finish is a low-sheen powder-coated steel that resists fingerprints better than gloss black and pairs with industrial, contemporary and monochrome interiors. The 7.5mm projection from the wall once fitted keeps the faceplate minimal without compromising the structural integrity needed to protect the grid module inside. The IP20 rating confirms it's suitable for dry indoor environments, and the 25-year warranty covers manufacturing defects in the steel and finish.

Frequently Asked
What is a grid faceplate used for?
Grid faceplates are part of a modular wiring system where switches, sockets, dimmers and data modules clip into a separate mounting grid behind the faceplate. This allows multiple functions to be grouped in a single location without needing separate cover plates for each device. The faceplate is purely the visible outer cover.
What grid modules does this faceplate accept?
This 1-gang faceplate accepts one Knightsbridge grid module. Grid modules are sold separately and include switches (1-way, 2-way, intermediate), dimmers, sockets, USB ports, data modules and blank plates. The grid module clips into a separate metal grid frame that's fixed to the back box, then the faceplate clips over the top.
What back box depth is required?
A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed. The grid frame and module fit inside the back box, with the faceplate adding 7.5mm of projection from the wall surface once installed.
Can the faceplate be installed in bathrooms?
The IP20 rating means this faceplate is suitable for dry indoor areas only. It cannot be installed in bathroom zones where water ingress is a risk (zones 1, 2 or 3). For bathroom installations outside the zones, IP20 is acceptable under current UK wiring regulations.
