Description

The Knightsbridge 1-gang blanking plate covers unused back boxes behind a polished chrome screwless faceplate. The plate is an 87.5mm square made from premium-grade steel with a Class I earth terminal, designed to sit over redundant electrical boxes left after rewiring or room reconfiguration.

Installed in homes, offices and commercial spaces, the blanking plate removes the need to replaster or redecorate where a socket or switch has been removed but the back box remains in the wall. The screwless cover clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box, hiding all fixings behind the faceplate for a clean wall finish. The 4.3mm projection sits almost flush to the wall surface.

An integrated gasket around the edge of the sub-frame ensures a tight fit against the wall, preventing dust and moisture ingress behind the plate. The polished chrome finish provides a bright, reflective surface that pairs with matching sockets and switches across Knightsbridge's range. The plate is IP20 rated for dry indoor use and carries a 25-year manufacturer warranty.

Why is an earth terminal needed on a blanking plate?

The Class I earth terminal maintains electrical continuity in the circuit even when the back box is not actively powering a socket or switch. This ensures the metal back box remains earthed for safety, as required by UK wiring regulations.

Can this be used in bathrooms?

The IP20 rating makes this plate suitable only for dry indoor locations. For bathrooms, a higher IP-rated blanking plate would be needed depending on the zone where the back box is located.

Is the screwless plate removable after installation?

Yes. The cover plate clips onto a separate sub-frame that is screwed to the back box. The cover can be removed for redecorating or future rewiring without disconnecting the earth terminal or removing the sub-frame.
