Description

The Ypsilon is a slim recessed LED wall light in black: a single narrow bar that runs straight up the wall, then angles away from it in its upper blade. It stands 61cm tall and just 3cm wide, so it reads as a clean line on the wall rather than a bulky fitting. The light source is an integrated LED, so there is no bulb to buy or change. It draws 13W and gives 1046 lumens of warm white light at 3000K, with a colour rendering index of 90, which keeps skin tones, fabrics and paint colours looking true.

We think it works best in living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms, where a tall, warm light suits the way those rooms are used in the evening. A pair either side of a bed or a sofa, or a few spaced along a dining room wall, gives you light at a good height without a lamp taking up floor or table space. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only, and it is made for indoor use. It is not dimmable, so it gives its full output whenever it is switched on; plan it for a standard on and off switch rather than a dimmer.

The black finish keeps the angled shape crisp against pale walls and lets it settle quietly into darker ones. It is a recessed fitting, set into the wall in a recessed box of 4cm by 11cm, so it needs a wall with room for that recess. It runs on 230V mains power and is wired in by a qualified electrician. Once it is in place there is no bulb to change, which makes it an easy wall light to live with.
