Description

The Wellington is a compact outdoor post light in solid brass with an antique brass finish. A clear ribbed glass dome sits inside a brass cage, carried on a waisted pedestal that flares out to a round foot plate. It stands 25cm tall and 11.5cm across, a size that suits the top of a gatepost or pier. The IP54 rating settles where it can go: it is protected against dust and water splashed from any direction, so it is made for open air and British rain, though not for a spot where water can pool around it.

The maker describes these lights as plain, hard-wearing and discreet, meant to mark out the edges of whatever you want lit. A pair on gateposts frames an entrance, and a run along a line of fence posts marks the edge of a drive or path after dark. The look is marine, the caged dome recalling a ship's deck light. The maker says the maritime influence shows in the range's materials, designs and names, and that these post lights suit outdoor settings where an industrial or nautical effect is wanted. It sits as comfortably outside a coastal cottage or a boathouse as by the gates of a town house.

The maker says the solid brass body is finished to look aged and authentic, and solid brass darkens and mellows outdoors. The cable enters through the base, so it can stay out of sight beneath the light. It takes one E27 Edison screw lamp of up to 18W, and the lamp is not included, so choose one when you order. At 1.4KG it is easy to lift into place on a post top. As a mains light, it should be installed by a qualified electrician. Plan one light per post, and have your lamps ready when the electrician arrives so the job is done in one visit.

Frequently Asked

Can the Wellington post light stay outdoors all year in British weather?

Yes. It is rated IP54, so it is protected against dust and against water splashed from any direction, which suits an open post top through the seasons. It is not meant for a spot where water can pool around it.

What lamp does this post light take?

It takes one E27 Edison screw lamp of up to 18W. The lamp is not included, so choose one when you order the light.

It stands 25cm tall and measures 11.5cm across, and it weighs 1.4KG, a size that suits the top of a gatepost, pier or fence post.

How will the antique brass finish change outdoors?

The maker says the solid brass body is finished to look aged and authentic. Solid brass darkens and mellows outdoors, so the light keeps a weathered, marine character over the years.

Where does the cable enter the light?

The cable enters through the base of the light, so it can rise from the post or pier beneath it and stay hidden rather than running down the outside.

Is the glass on this post light clear or frosted?

The diffuser is clear ribbed glass, a domed shade held inside a brass cage that gives the light its ship's deck look.
