Description

The Vega is a dome pendant light in matt black. It is a single wide, shallow dome that steps out into a broad flared rim at its lower edge. It has an iron structure and hangs on a 1.5m textile cable from an 8cm ceiling canopy. The whole fitting is 37cm across and only 12cm tall, so it reads as a low, generous shape rather than a deep bell, and it keeps sightlines clear across a room. It takes one E27 lamp, which is not included, so you choose the bulb and with it the warmth and brightness of the light.

Its outline has a vintage feel, with the stepped rim recalling older pendant shades, yet the plain matt black keeps it at home in a modern room. We like it over a round dining table, above a desk in a study, or hung in a hallway or on a landing where a shallow shade sits neatly. Along a longer table, two or three in a row make a simple, even line. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only: living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, studies and hallways all suit it.

The structure is iron, finished in matt black, and the textile cable gives a softer look than plain plastic flex. It is a switched, on-off fitting rather than a dimmable one, and it runs on 220-240V mains, so it is for a qualified electrician to install. It carries a 2 year guarantee. For styling, a warm-white E27 bulb suits the dark shade. The Vega sits well with oak, walnut or brass in the room, or against a pale wall that lets its dark outline stand out.
