Description
The Trident Shield is a round bulkhead light in solid brass with a raw brass finish, shaped like a ship's porthole. A half-moon brass shield covers the upper half of the clear ribbed glass, with a narrow slot cut through it so a thin line of light glows through the top, and three triangular lugs stand out around the rim. It measures 19cm in diameter with a height of 9cm, weighs 1.7KG and has a shallow profile that keeps it close to the wall. It is rated IP64: dust-tight and protected from splashing water, so it lives outdoors in British weather.
Put it wherever a doorway or wall needs light with some character: beside a front door, in a porch, on a garden wall, by a back gate or on a boathouse wall. The maker describes these bulkheads as designed for outdoor spots that call for an industrial or nautical look, and says this design has an old motoring feel to it, which we think is exactly right: the shield reads like the peak of a vintage headlamp. The maker also says the maritime influence shows in the range's materials, designs and names. It suits a seaside cottage, a converted barn or a brick terrace.
Solid brass darkens and mellows outdoors, so expect the raw brass to settle into a deeper, softer tone with the seasons. The cable can come in through a gland at the end or at the rear, and a brass blank is included to take the gland's place in whichever entry stays unused. It takes one E27 (ES) lamp, the widely available large screw cap. As a mains light, it should be installed by a qualified electrician. Before you order, cut a 19cm circle of card and hold it against the wall where you plan to fit the light, and you will see straight away how it sits beside the door.

Frequently Asked
Can the Trident Shield bulkhead go outside all year?
Yes. It is rated IP64, so it is dust-tight and protected from splashing water, which means it lives outdoors in British weather on a front wall, porch or garden wall.
Can I use this bulkhead light in a bathroom?
Its IP64 rating means it can be considered for a bathroom, and a qualified electrician will confirm the right zone in your room.
What lamp does the Trident Shield take?
It takes a single E27 lamp, also called ES, the large screw cap that is widely available.
How big is the Trident Shield bulkhead?
It measures 19cm in diameter with a height of 9cm and weighs 1.7KG, so it is a compact light that sits neatly beside a front door.
Will the raw brass finish change colour outdoors?
Yes. Solid brass darkens and mellows outdoors, so the raw brass will gradually settle into a deeper, softer tone as it weathers.
How does the cable enter the light?
There is a cable gland at the end or at the rear, and a brass blank is included to close whichever entry is not needed.
