Description

The Thari is a slim linear wall light built around a cylinder of ribbed fumé glass, held upright between two matt black caps on a narrow black backplate. The glass is transparent with a smoky tint, and its fine vertical ribs soften the look of the bulb inside, so the tube glows along its length. It takes one E27 lamp holder; lamps are not included, so choose an E27 bulb in the colour temperature you like. It measures 44cm tall and stands 7cm out from the wall, so it sits close and neat even in a narrow space.

Its slim profile suits a hallway, a landing or a spot beside a dressing table, and a pair makes a good frame for a doorway, a fireplace or a bed. The ribbed glass and black frame have an art deco feel with clean, modern lines, so it sits as comfortably in a period house as in a newer home. It is rated IP20, which means it is for dry rooms only: living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and studies. It is an on-off switched fitting rather than a dimmable one, so choose the bulb for the brightness you want.

We like the way the materials work together: an iron base, a brass structure and a glass shade, finished in matt black with transparent fumé glass. The black reads crisp against pale walls and quietly rich against dark paint, while the smoky glass softens the light it gives. It carries a 2 year guarantee and runs on 220-240V; as a mains fitting, it is for a qualified electrician to install. For styling, place it at about eye height so the ribbed cylinder glows in easy view, and try it against a deep green or navy wall, or alongside warm timber and brass accents to bring out its art deco side.
