Description

The Knightsbridge NETBTSGY is a 25 x 50mm telephone secondary outlet module with IDC (insulation displacement connector) terminals, designed to fit euro-module faceplates. The module provides a single BT extension socket for connecting a telephone handset to an existing telephone line, and is certified to BS 5733 for compliance with UK telecoms standards.

Designed for residential and commercial installations where additional telephone points are needed without running new lines back to the master socket, the module fits into modular grid systems that accept 25mm-wide euro-modules. The grey ABS construction matches standard grey grid faceplates and back boxes, and the 22mm depth (21mm recessed) requires a minimum 25mm back box depth for safe installation.

The IDC terminals accept standard twisted-pair telephone cable without the need to strip insulation — the installer simply pushes the cable into the terminal block where metal contacts pierce the insulation to make contact with the copper cores. This speeds up installation and reduces the risk of miswiring compared to screw terminals. The IP20 rating confirms the module is suitable for dry indoor locations only.

Frequently Asked

What is a secondary telephone outlet?

A secondary outlet is an extension socket wired from an existing telephone line, allowing you to plug in a handset at a location away from the master socket. It does not carry a ringer signal on its own — the telephone line must already be active.

What faceplate does this module fit?

The 25 x 50mm dimension is the standard euro-module size. It fits into modular grid faceplates that accept this format, typically available in 1-gang, 2-gang and larger configurations from Knightsbridge and compatible manufacturers.

What does IDC mean?

IDC stands for insulation displacement connector. The terminal block inside the module has metal contacts that pierce the cable insulation when the cable is pushed in, making electrical contact without needing to strip the wires first.

Can this be used for broadband?

The module is designed for voice telephony and is certified to BS 5733. While ADSL broadband signals travel over the same telephone line, performance depends on cable quality and run length. For best broadband performance, consult your ISP's installation guidance.
