Description

The Tanit S/61 is a fabric LED pendant light with a wide, faceted shade of beige cotton thread, hung from a matt black canopy and stem. Fine horizontal threads are wound over the slim ribs of an eight-sided frame, so when the light is on the whole shade glows softly through each face. The shade is 61cm across and 30cm tall, a generous size that still looks light and airy. Inside sits an integrated LED of 24W giving 1119 lumens of warm 2700K light with a CRI of 90, so there is no bulb to buy and food, wood and fabric keep their natural colours.

We picture it first over a dining table, where a shade this wide suits a family table and draws everyone together, and it works just as well in a living room, over a coffee table or a favourite chair. The drop runs from 64cm to 200cm, so it can hang low over a table or higher under a tall ceiling, and the stem is 53cm long. It is dimmable (TRIAC) on a compatible dimmer, so you can turn it down for a long supper and up for a busy evening. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms indoors only.

It is made from aluminium, iron and cotton: the canopy and stem are matt black metal, and the shade is beige cotton thread, a pairing of dark metal and natural fibre that sits happily with wood, cane and linen. The design is by Gonzalo Milà. The canopy is 12cm across. It runs on 230V mains and is a Class I fitting, wired in to the mains by a qualified electrician. With the LED built in, the only thing to plan beyond the wiring is a compatible dimmer, if you want to set the mood.
