Description
The Speers Outdoor Stem is a slim black stem, 120cm long, and the upright at the heart of the Speers Outdoor lighting system. It gives no light by itself. It carries the LED heads along its length, which lets you place light at different heights along one slim line. Rated IP54, it is made for outdoor use and protected against dust and splashing water. The stem sets the overall reach of the fitting, so the 120cm length is the one to choose when you want the heads spread over a generous span.
Because it is rated IP54 and made for outdoor use, the stem suits a patio, a terrace, a courtyard or a garden path. It works anywhere you want a slender line of light rather than a bulky lantern. The stem is one part of a larger system, made to work alongside the other Speers Outdoor parts. You will need Speers Outdoor light sources, which give the light; a connection box, which makes the electrical connection; and a C, W or Angle accessory, which fixes the stem in position. Each is sold separately, and the stem does not work without them.
The stem is a Class I fitting, which means it needs an earth connection, and a qualified electrician should install it. Its length leaves room for the heads to sit apart, so the light can reach across a seating area or pick out planting at more than one level. The design is by David Abad: a thin, plain line that reads as a quiet black stroke against a wall, a hedge or the night sky. Plan the full set before the electrician comes, so the whole system goes in on one visit. The LED heads and base in our photographs are not included.
