Description

The Roi is a flush wall and ceiling light with a ribbed glass dome in smoky fumé glass, set on a brass base in front of a polished brass disc. Fine ribs run across the glass from the rim to the crown, so the shade catches the light along every line and reads as softly textured rather than plain. It takes one G9 lamp, and the maker recommends a G9 LED. The proportions are compact: the shade is 12cm across and 8.5cm tall, the base is 10cm across and 2cm high, and the brass disc behind them is 15cm across.

Because it is flush, fixed directly against the surface with no stem, it suits places where headroom matters: a low hallway ceiling, a landing, a corridor or a cottage bedroom. It fixes to a ceiling or to a wall, so the same light can work overhead in a small room or as a wall light beside a bed, along a stair or either side of a fireplace. It is rated IP20, which means dry rooms only: living rooms, bedrooms, studies, hallways and dining rooms. The ribbed fumé glass and polished brass sit naturally in an art deco scheme, yet the clean dome and plain disc keep it at home in a modern interior too.

The base is brass and the shade is glass, with the metal finished in polished brass, a bright, warm metal that pairs well with the smoky tone of the glass. It runs on 220-240V mains and, like any mains fitting, is for a qualified electrician to install. It carries a 3 year guarantee. We like to let the brass pick up other warm metals in the room, such as a brass mirror frame or a brass door handle, and set it against deep greens, inky blues or warm plaster walls, where the polished disc stands out.
