The Platet A/01 is an outdoor wall light with an industrial look: a slim upright body fixed to the wall, a bent rod arm and a single wide conical shade that throws its light downwards. It is made of aluminium, brass and iron, with its structure in Ebony Black and its shade in Black. The light source is an integrated LED of 4.2W, giving 323 lumens at 2700K, a warm white, with a CRI of 90, so colours look natural after dark. It stands 40cm tall, reaches 30cm out from the wall and has a shade 20cm across; its wall plate is 14cm tall and its width is 5cm.

Rated IP66, it is made for outdoor use, and suits a front door, a porch, a patio wall, a garden path or the side of a garage. We like a pair either side of an entrance, with the shade facing down towards the step. At 4.2W and 323 lumens it is a gentle light rather than a floodlight: right for marking a doorway, lighting a table on the terrace, or picking out a stretch of garden wall. The 30cm projection holds the shade clear of the wall, so it sits over a step or path rather than flat against the brickwork.

The design is by Christophe Mathieu. Its aluminium, brass and iron construction is finished in Ebony Black on the structure and Black on the shade, a dark pairing that sits quietly against brick, render or stone. Its IP66 rating means it is dust tight and protected against powerful jets of water, so it is made for walls open to the weather. It is a Class I fitting that runs at 230V on the mains, and it is wired in, so it is one for a qualified electrician to install. With the LED built in, there is no bulb to change once it is on the wall.
