Description
Our Mini Compass Guard is a small round bulkhead light made from solid brass in an antique brass finish, shaped like a ship's porthole. A grid guard of crossed brass bars arches over a domed clear ribbed glass, and thumb screws set around the rim hold it closed. It is 14cm across and 6cm deep, a compact size that sits neatly on a narrow stretch of wall where a larger bulkhead would look crowded. The IP44 rating means it is protected against splashing water from any direction, and the maker designs it for use outdoors, so it copes with rain blown against an outside wall.
The maker recommends it for decking and outdoor dining areas. It also suits a back door, a porch, a garden wall or a boathouse. With its IP44 rating it can be considered for a bathroom, where a qualified electrician will confirm the right zone. The maker says its nickname is the spider, and with its lugs and screws reaching out from the rim, the name is well chosen. The maker adds that its bulkheads are intended for places that want an industrial or nautical look, and says the maritime influence shows in the materials, designs and even the names across its range.
The solid brass body arrives with what the maker describes as an aged finish with an original look, and solid brass darkens and mellows outdoors, so it settles further into its surroundings with time. The cable enters through a gland at the side. It takes one G9 lamp of up to 25W, and the lamp is not included, so pick one up when you order. The maker says the thumb screws make changing the bulb easier, a real help on a light mounted high on a wall. It weighs 0.7KG. As with any mains light, it should be installed by a qualified electrician.
