Description

The Mercury is a two-unit wired intercom system providing duplex 2-way audio communication between two points in a property via a simple two-wire connection. Each unit houses a speaker and microphone, a call button with adjustable tone volume, and runs on 4 x AA batteries, removing the need for mains wiring at either location. The system includes an 8m connection cable and wall-mounting brackets for both units.

Designed for residential properties with multiple floors, small offices, workshops, garages and outbuildings where voice communication is needed but running mains power is impractical. The two-wire connection carries both the call signal and the audio between units, and the 200m maximum range accommodates most single-property installations when paired with suitable low-resistance cable. Each unit can be wall-mounted or used free-standing on a desk or shelf.

The battery operation keeps standby current consumption below 5µA, meaning a set of AA batteries typically lasts several months in normal use. When the call button is pressed on either unit, both handsets emit an audible tone at adjustable volume. Lifting the handset on either end opens the duplex audio channel, allowing simultaneous two-way conversation without needing to press-to-talk. The white plastic housing measures 210 x 92 x 68mm per unit and weighs 360g without batteries.

Frequently Asked

What batteries does it use and are they included?

Each unit requires 4 x AA batteries (8 batteries total for the complete system). Batteries are not included and must be purchased separately. The low standby current consumption of less than 5µA means a typical set of alkaline AAs lasts several months in normal domestic use.

What cable is needed to connect the two units?

The system includes an 8m two-core connection cable. For longer runs up to the maximum 200m range, use standard two-core low-voltage cable with sufficient conductor thickness to avoid signal loss. Standard doorbell wire or alarm cable is suitable for most installations.

Can both people talk at the same time?

Yes. The Mercury operates in duplex mode, meaning both handsets can transmit and receive audio simultaneously without needing to press a talk button. This allows natural conversation rather than walkie-talkie style communication.

Can the units be mounted outdoors?

No. The Mercury is designed for indoor use only and carries no IP rating for weather resistance. For outdoor intercom applications, an IP-rated video or audio doorbell system is recommended instead.
