Description
This small circular bulkhead light is made of solid brass in an antique brass finish, a mottled, aged brown-gold that looks as though it has spent years by the sea. A grid guard of two upright and two crossing bars sits over a frosted glass diffuser, which softens the lamp to an even glow, and the rim is fixed with three screws. It measures 14cm in diameter and just 5cm deep, so it sits close to the wall and never crowds a narrow passage or doorway. It is rated IP64: dust-tight and protected from splashing water, so it lives outdoors in British weather all year round.
Because it is so compact, it comes into its own where you want a row of lights at low level: spaced along a garden wall, beside a flight of steps or either side of a porch door. The maker says it is often used where several low level lights are wanted, and in public and commercial areas, as changing the bulb takes a screwdriver. The look is unmistakably nautical, the kind of porthole light you would expect on a boathouse, a harbour cottage or a brick outbuilding by the water, and the maker says the maritime influence shows in the range's materials, designs and names.
Solid brass darkens and mellows outdoors, so expect the colour to deepen gently over the seasons. The cable enters at the rear, which suits a supply that comes straight through the wall behind the light, and the whole fitting weighs 0.86KG. It takes one G9 lamp of up to 25W, and the lamp is not included, so have a G9 bulb ready for fitting day. As a mains light, it should be installed by a qualified electrician. Keep a small screwdriver with your spare G9 bulbs, and changing one is a quick job.

Frequently Asked
Can this bulkhead light go outdoors?
Yes. It is rated IP64, which means it is dust-tight and protected from splashing water, so it can live outdoors in British weather all year.
What bulb does the antique brass bulkhead take?
It takes one G9 lamp of up to 25W. The lamp is not included, so you will need to buy a G9 bulb separately.
How big is the circular bulkhead light?
It is 14cm in diameter and 5cm deep, and it weighs 0.86KG, so it sits neatly at low level without crowding a wall.
Will the antique brass finish change outdoors?
Solid brass darkens and mellows outdoors, so the aged brown-gold colour will deepen gently over time rather than staying exactly as it arrives.
Do you need a tool to change the bulb?
The maker says a screwdriver is needed to change the bulb, which is one reason it is often used in public and commercial areas.
Where is the cable entry on this light?
The cable enters at the rear of the body, which suits a mains supply that comes straight through the wall behind the light.
