Description

The Kando P/76 is a low floor lamp shaped like a lantern: a pleated cylinder shade in Cream Translucent Ribbon, held within a three-legged frame of teak wood and capped with a round brown top. It stands 76cm tall and 49cm across, so it sits close to the floor and keeps its glow at the level of the furniture around it. The light comes from an integrated LED giving 1415lm, which means there is no bulb to buy or change, and the translucent ribbon softens it as it passes through the shade.

We see it as a living room lamp first. At 76cm it is at home beside a sofa or an armchair, in an empty corner, or next to a low table, where it adds a gentle glow at seat height rather than light from overhead. Because it stands freely on its three legs, you can move it as the room changes, from one side of the sofa to the other or closer to a favourite chair. It runs on mains power at 277V DC, and its 290cm cable gives you a good amount of reach when you choose where it stands. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only, which suits the living room it was made for.

It is made from aluminium, teak wood, ribbon and polycarbonate. The teak brings its natural grain and colour to the three legs and the crossbars at the top, set against the brown structure and the Cream Translucent Ribbon of the shade, which is pleated in fine, upright folds. It is a Class II fitting. On the practical side, the integrated LED means you never have to hunt for a compatible bulb, and the lantern shape looks just as considered from every side, so it can stand in the middle of a room as happily as against a wall.
