Description

The James is a compact round recessed LED downlight in a black finish. It sits neatly into the ceiling and sends a focused 24° beam straight down. Its integrated LED draws 5.2W and gives 462 lumens, so there is no bulb to buy or replace. A CRI of 90 means colours read true under it, from skin tones to painted walls and timber. We sell it in two colour temperatures, 2700K or 3000K: the 2700K version is the warmer and softer of the two, while the 3000K version gives a slightly fresher white. The trim you see on the ceiling is 6.3cm across, and the fitting needs a 4.3cm cut-out.

With an IP44 rating, the James is protected against splashing water, so it suits a bathroom as well as a kitchen, where the narrow beam lands neatly on a worktop, a sink or the front of an island. It is an indoor fitting, so keep it inside the house. The tight 24° spread makes it good for accent lighting too: a line of them along a hallway, a pair over a painting or a run picking out shelves in a living room. Because the trim is so small, a ceiling can take several without looking busy. The black finish sits well against a dark ceiling or as a deliberate contrast on a pale one.

Inside the black trim, a pale sleeve surrounds the LED, which sits recessed back from the ceiling line rather than flush with it. Behind the ceiling, the body is 3.6cm across and 10cm high, so check there is that much depth in the void before you choose it. The James is a mains fitting, wired in by a qualified electrician.
