Description
The Knightsbridge OP9RCD is an IP66-rated 13A 2-gang double-pole switched socket with integrated Type A 30mA RCD protection, housed in a black polycarbonate weatherproof enclosure. The transparent smoked lid lifts on hinges and can be held open during use, while the IP66 rating protects the socket from heavy rain and dust ingress when the lid is closed.
Designed for outdoor use in gardens, patios, workshops and garages, the socket provides twin 13A outlets for powering garden tools, pressure washers, outdoor lighting and power equipment. The integrated Type A RCD provides protection against AC residual current and pulsating DC up to 6mA, making it suitable for equipment with electronic components such as IT equipment, chargers and modern power tools. The RCD is a passive latching type that automatically resets after a power outage without requiring manual intervention.
The polycarbonate casing is rated IK06 for impact resistance and measures 170mm wide by 159mm high with a 90mm projection from the wall once installed. The enclosure has multiple 20mm cable entry points and wider internal cable channels that accommodate plugs with thick over-moulded strain relief common on outdoor equipment. The outboard rocker switches provide double-pole isolation, and dual earth terminals inside the unit allow for loop-in/loop-out wiring. The smoked black front panel allows the green RCD indicator to remain visible when the unit is powered and protected.

Frequently Asked
What is Type A RCD protection?
Type A RCD provides protection against both AC residual current and pulsating DC up to 6mA. This makes it suitable for modern equipment with electronic components, including power tools with variable speed controls, IT equipment, battery chargers and devices with switch-mode power supplies. The 30mA trip current provides personal protection against electric shock.
Does the RCD need to be manually reset after a power cut?
No. This unit uses a passive latching RCD that automatically resets after a power outage without requiring manual intervention. The socket will be live again once mains power is restored, provided no fault condition exists.
Can this be used in permanent rain or washdown areas?
The IP66 rating protects against heavy rain and powerful water jets when the lid is closed. However, the socket is not submersible and should not be installed where it will sit in pooled water. When plugs are inserted and the lid is open, the IP rating no longer applies and the unit should not be used in active rainfall.
What cable entries does it have?
The unit has multiple 20mm cable entry points on the base and sides, allowing flexible positioning and loop-in/loop-out wiring. The dual earth terminals inside support this configuration. The wider internal cable channels accommodate plugs with thick over-moulded strain relief commonly found on outdoor extension leads and equipment.
