GU10 Lampholder with 260mm Silicon Cable

The Knightsbridge GU10 lampholder is a heat-resistant bulb socket supplied with a 260mm length of silicon-impregnated braided cable rated to 50W maximum load. The GU10 bayonet fitting accepts standard GU10 LED, halogen and CFL bulbs, while the silicon-treated cable resists temperatures up to 180°C, making it suitable for retrofit installations in downlights, spotlights and recessed fittings where heat build-up is a concern.

Designed for electricians and DIY installers replacing failed lampholders in existing ceiling fittings, the 260mm cable length provides enough reach to wire into a typical ceiling void or spotlight housing without needing junction boxes or cable extensions. The braided outer sheath protects the live and neutral cores from abrasion during installation and from heat exposure once the bulb is operating. The lampholder body is ceramic with a thermoplastic outer shell that maintains its grip on the bulb pins under prolonged heat cycling.

The white braided cable sheath keeps a clean appearance in visible installations such as track lighting or exposed pendant adapters, while the black thermoplastic socket body remains discreet once fitted inside a recessed housing. What makes the cable silicon-impregnated?

The braided cable sheath is treated with silicon during manufacture to resist heat and prevent the fibres from degrading under sustained temperatures up to 180°C. This treatment is standard in lampholders used with halogen bulbs or in enclosed downlight housings where heat cannot easily dissipate.

Can this be used with LED GU10 bulbs?

Yes. The 50W rating accommodates both older halogen GU10 bulbs and modern LED GU10 replacements. Most LED GU10 bulbs draw between 3-7W, well within the lampholder's capacity.

Is 260mm long enough for ceiling void installation?

For most downlight and spotlight housings fitted into standard plasterboard ceilings with 100-200mm void depth, 260mm provides enough cable to reach from the lampholder position to the wiring point inside the housing or void. Deeper voids or unusual fittings may require a lampholder with a longer cable tail.

What's the bulb retention mechanism?

The GU10 socket uses a bayonet twist-lock mechanism. The bulb is pushed in and twisted clockwise to lock the two pins into position. Spring-loaded contacts inside the ceramic socket maintain pressure on the bulb pins to ensure consistent electrical contact.
