Description
The Grand Tiller is a solid brass outdoor wall lantern in a raw brass finish. A flared brass hood sits over a clear ribbed glass shade, a sturdy brass cage wraps the glass, and the whole lantern is held out from the wall on a short arm. It is 16cm wide and 29cm tall, standing 22cm from the wall on a 9.5cm wall plate, so it reads clearly beside a door without crowding the frame. The IP64 rating settles the outdoor question: the lantern is dust-tight and protected from splashing water, so it can live outside through every season of British weather.
The maker says it is ideal for lighting either side of a doorway or gateway, and that is where it shines: a pair framing a front door, a porch entrance or the gates to a drive. It suits a garden wall or the side of a boathouse just as well. The maker describes these wall lights as designed for outdoor places that call for an industrial or nautical look, and says the maritime influence shows in the range's materials, designs and names; a tiller, after all, is the bar that steers a boat. The cage and ribbed glass give it the air of a ship's deck light.
The maker says brass dome head nuts lock the lantern onto its weatherproof backing plate, and the cable enters at the rear through the wall plate, so no wiring runs across the face of the wall. Solid brass darkens and mellows outdoors, so the raw brass finish will gradually take on a softer, aged depth. It takes one E27 (ES) lamp, the common screw cap size, and the ribbed glass softens the glare of the lamp. As with any mains light, it should be installed by a qualified electrician. Pick a warm lamp and the lantern glows gently through the ribbing at dusk.

Frequently Asked
Can the Grand Tiller go outside all year?
Yes. It is rated IP64, which means it is dust-tight and protected from splashing water, so it is made to live outdoors through British weather beside a door, a gate or on a garden wall.
What bulb does the Grand Tiller take?
It takes one E27 lamp, also known as ES, the common screw cap size, so a replacement is easy to find. A warm lamp gives a soft glow through the ribbed glass.
How big is the lantern?
It is 16cm wide and 29cm tall and stands 22cm out from the wall on a wall plate of 9.5cm. It weighs 2.6KG.
Will the raw brass finish change colour outdoors?
Yes, gradually. Solid brass darkens and mellows outdoors, so the raw brass will take on a deeper, aged tone as the seasons pass.
Where does the cable enter the lantern?
The cable enters at the rear through the wall plate, so the connection sits hidden behind the lantern rather than showing on the face of the wall.
Is the glass protected by a cage?
Yes. A sturdy brass cage wraps the clear ribbed glass shade, guarding it and giving the lantern the look of a light from a ship's deck.
