Description

The Knightsbridge MD02B is a recessed downlight lampholder with a 100mm diameter brass-finished bezel and a 125mm deep pressed steel body. The lampholder accepts standard E27 bulbs up to 60W and connects directly to 230V mains without requiring a transformer, making it compatible with halogen, LED and traditional filament E27 lamps.

Designed for residential and commercial installations where a traditional recessed downlight fitting is needed, the lampholder installs into an 80mm ceiling cut-out and requires a minimum 180mm void depth above the ceiling. Spring clips on the body secure the fitting against the underside of the plasterboard or ceiling panel without needing separate fixings or supports. The 5.5mm projection from the ceiling surface keeps the bezel flush with most ceiling finishes.

The brass finish on the bezel provides a warm metallic accent that works well in period interiors, hospitality settings and domestic installations where decorative downlights are preferred over white plastic bezels. The pressed steel construction and Class II double-insulated rating mean the fitting does not require an earth connection, simplifying installation where older cabling is present. The IP20 rating limits use to dry indoor locations away from direct moisture.

Supplied with 2-core 0.75mm² H05SS-F flex for connection to ceiling wiring. The lampholder is compatible with dimmable E27 bulbs when paired with a compatible dimmer switch on the circuit. Maximum ceiling thickness for installation is 18mm, typical for plasterboard and thin timber panel ceilings.

What ceiling void depth is required?

A minimum 180mm void depth is needed above the ceiling to accommodate the 125mm recessed body plus clearance for the lampholder and bulb. Maximum ceiling thickness for installation is 18mm.

Does it require a transformer?

No. The lampholder connects directly to 230V mains using the supplied 0.75mm² flex. No transformer or driver is needed.

What bulb does it take?

The lampholder accepts standard E27 (Edison screw) bulbs up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users fit LED E27 bulbs between 6-10W for energy efficiency.

Is it dimmable?

Dimming depends on the bulb fitted. If you fit a dimmable E27 LED or halogen bulb and connect the circuit to a compatible dimmer switch, the lampholder will dim. Non-dimmable LED bulbs will not dim and may flicker on dimmer circuits.
