Description

The Knightsbridge E27 bricklight is a recessed wall fitting built around a die-cast aluminium housing designed to sit flush in a standard UK brick cavity. The unit ships with two interchangeable black aluminium covers — one plain open frame and one louvred — allowing the light to be configured as either a full-output wash light or a directional downlight depending on which cover is fitted.

Designed for outdoor path lighting, porch lighting, boundary walls and garden step lighting, the IP44 rating protects against splashing water and solid objects down to 1mm, making it suitable for sheltered exterior positions. The fitting accepts a standard E27 bulb up to 40W (sold separately), with dimmability determined by the choice of bulb. The frosted glass front diffuses light evenly across the rectangular aperture, softening the output whether used with halogen or LED.

The 228x88x75mm cut-out fits the cavity left by removing a single standard UK brick, minimising brickwork alteration during installation. Electrical termination is via a 10A connector block inside the housing, allowing mains cable to be connected without soldering or complex wiring. The aluminium construction and black powder-coat finish resist corrosion in outdoor environments, while the Class I earthing requirement provides additional safety for permanent mains installation.

The plain cover provides wide-angle light distribution suitable for illuminating pathways and porch areas, while the louvred cover directs most of the output downwards, reducing glare and light spill in positions where upward light would cause nuisance. Covers are tool-free interchangeable, fixed by two visible screws on the front face.

What's the difference between the plain and louvred covers?

The plain cover provides wide-angle light distribution suitable for general pathway and porch lighting. The louvred cover directs most output downwards, reducing upward glare and light spill in positions where you want to minimise light pollution or avoid dazzling people approaching the fitting.

What bulb does it take?

The fitting takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 40W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most outdoor applications use a warm-white LED bulb between 5-10W and 2700K-3000K for path and step lighting.

Can it be used in exposed outdoor positions?

The IP44 rating protects against splashing water and is suitable for sheltered outdoor positions such as covered porches, under eaves, and recessed into boundary walls. It is not rated for full exposure to driving rain or submersion.

Does it require an electrician to install?

Yes. The fitting is Class I (requires earthing) and is permanently wired into mains via a 10A connector block inside the housing. Installation must comply with Part P Building Regulations and should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
