Description

The Carl Adjustable is a compact recessed LED downlight in white. It has a slim cylindrical head on a short stem beneath a round ceiling trim, so you can tilt the light where you want it. It has an integrated LED, so there is no bulb to buy or replace. It draws 18W and gives 1436 lumens through a focused 30° beam. A CRI of 90 means colours look natural under it, from food on a worktop to the paint on a canvas. It comes in two colour temperatures, 2700K or 3000K, and you choose the version when you order. 2700K is the warmer and softer of the two, 3000K a little crisper. It is 5.3cm across and 9.5cm tall.

A 30° beam gives a defined pool of light rather than a broad wash, which makes this downlight ideal for accent lighting: picking out a painting, a shelf of ceramics, a dresser or a kitchen island. Because the head angles on its stem, you can aim each one separately, so a row along a ceiling can light a wall of pictures or follow the line of a worktop. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only and not for anywhere it might be splashed. The inside of the head is dark, so the opening reads as a neat black ring against the white.

Power is from the mains, and it is wired in by a qualified electrician. It is dimmable by DALI or push, so it can join a DALI control system or be dimmed from a push switch. The small trim and slim head keep the ceiling looking tidy, and the white finish blends quietly into a white ceiling. Before you order, check the ceiling void: each one needs a 5.5cm cut-out and 6cm of recess depth, so make sure joists and pipes are clear where you want each light.
