Description

The Carl Adjustable is a recessed LED downlight with a cylindrical head that you can angle, so the light goes exactly where you want it. The head hangs on a short stem from a neat round trim that sits flush against the ceiling, and the whole fitting is finished in Brushed Bronze. It is 9.5cm tall and 5.3cm across. The light source is an integrated LED, so there is no bulb to buy or change: it draws 18W and gives 1436 lumens through a 30° beam, a tight spot that picks out an object or a stretch of wall rather than flooding a room. With a CRI of 90, colours and textures look true under it.

Because the head adjusts, it is a good choice wherever a fixed downlight would light the wrong thing: washing a wall, picking out a picture or shelving, or pooling light on a dining table or across a kitchen. A run of them along a ceiling lights a display, a clothes rail or a long hallway wall. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only. You choose the colour of light: it comes in a 2700K version for a warm, homely glow, or a 3000K version, a touch crisper, for kitchens and working areas.

The Carl Adjustable is dimmable by DALI or push dimming, so it can run from a DALI lighting control system or from a push switch. Fitting it takes a 5.5cm hole cut in the ceiling and 6cm of recess depth in the void behind it, so check your ceiling before you commit to a position. We like the Brushed Bronze finish for its fine, even grain, which suits warm interiors and sits comfortably beside brass, timber and stone. It is a mains fitting, wired in by a qualified electrician, so settle where each light goes and how you want to dim them before the ceiling work begins.
