Description

The Carl Adjustable is a recessed LED downlight with a slim cylindrical head that you can angle towards whatever you want to light. It comes in a black finish, with a round trim that sits flush against the ceiling and a short stem holding the head below it. The light source is an integrated LED, so there is no bulb to buy or change: it draws 18W and gives 1436lm through a 30° beam, a focused pool of light rather than a broad wash. We sell it in 2700K or 3000K: the 2700K version is the warmer of the two, and the 3000K version a touch crisper. With a CRI of 90, colours under it look true. It is 9.5cm tall and 5.3cm across.

Because the head angles, the Carl Adjustable is as useful for picking out a picture, a shelf of books or a run of kitchen cabinets as it is for plain downlighting. In a kitchen, a row of them over an island gives clear, well placed light to work and gather by, and the 30° beam keeps that light where you aim it. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only and should be kept away from anywhere it could be splashed.

The Carl Adjustable is wired in to the mains by an electrician and set into the ceiling, where it needs a 5.5cm cut-out and 6cm of recess depth, so check the space above first. It is dimmable by DALI or push dimming, so your electrician can link it to a DALI control system or to a compatible push dimmer. Each fitting is made in one colour temperature, so choose 2700K or 3000K when you order. With the light built in there is no lamp to replace, and the black finish sits quietly in a dark ceiling or stands out against a pale one.
