This is a square cushion worked in a tufted candy cane pattern, its raised loops standing proud of the ground for a surface you notice with your hand as much as your eye. The face is 100% polyester and the reverse is 100% cotton, so the front carries the hard-wearing pile that holds the design and the back sits soft against a sofa. The candy canes are picked out in red and cream against a warm pink ground, scattered at angles across the whole face rather than lined up in rows, which keeps the pattern lively however you plump and set the cushion.

It is a seasonal piece, made for the run-up to Christmas and the weeks around it, and it earns its place on a sofa, an armchair or a made-up bed.
