Description
The Bug Halo is a compact round downlight in a white finish, recessed into the ceiling, 7.5cm across and 4cm tall. Its light source sits well back inside a smooth white cone, so you notice the light more than the fitting. It comes in five versions: a lampholder version, for which the bulb is not included, or one of four integrated LED versions, at 2700K with a 24° beam, 2700K with a 36° beam, 3000K with a 24° beam or 3000K with a 36° beam. The integrated LED versions need no bulb; each draws 5W and gives 700 lumens with a CRI of 90, so colours look true under it.
Downlights this size work well in a row along a kitchen ceiling, or in a group to light a room evenly without a pendant hanging in the way. The beam is the choice we would weigh first. The 24° versions throw a tighter pool, which suits picking out a dining table, a shelf or a picture on the wall; the 36° versions spread a little wider for more general light. 2700K is the warmer, softer white for relaxing in the evening, while 3000K is a touch crisper and suits a kitchen where you cook and prepare food. The white finish sits quietly against a painted ceiling, whichever version you pick.
The Bug Halo runs on 230V mains and is wired in to the mains by an electrician. It is a Class II fitting, which means it needs no earth connection. The white finish carries from the outer rim into the cone, which keeps the look clean when you glance up. If you choose the lampholder version, buy a bulb for each fitting, as none is included; the integrated LED versions give light as soon as they are installed. Settle on one colour temperature and one beam before you order, so a whole run of downlights matches.

Frequently Asked
Does the Bug Halo need a bulb?
The four integrated LED versions need no bulb, as the LED is built in. The lampholder version takes a bulb, which is not included, so you buy one separately.
What is the difference between the 24° and 36° beam?
The 24° beam throws a narrower, more focused pool of light for picking out a table or a picture, while the 36° beam spreads a little wider for more general lighting.
Which colour temperature should I choose?
Choose 2700K for a warmer, softer white in the evening, or 3000K for a slightly crisper white in a kitchen. Each integrated LED colour temperature comes with a 24° or 36° beam.
