This Bubble wall light pairs two opal glass globes with a slim integrated LED reading light, all set on a tall, round-ended backplate in matt white. The structure is iron, and each 8cm globe is a sphere of opal glass that diffuses the light from a G9 lamp into a soft, even glow. Beneath them, the reading light throws a focused 45 degree beam from 2.7W of integrated LED, giving 250 lumens of warm white light at 3000K, and as an integrated LED it needs no bulb. The fitting is 38cm tall and projects 10.5cm from the wall, so it sits close and tidy.

With a soft glow above and a directed beam below, this is a wall light made for reading in bed. We think it suits the space beside a bed best, where the globes give the room a gentle background light and the reading light puts a pool of light on the page. It works just as well by an armchair in a living room, in a study corner or in a guest bedroom, and its shallow projection keeps it out of the way in a hallway. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only.

The iron structure carries a matt white finish that sits quietly against pale walls, and the opal glass softens the G9 lamps inside it. The reading light has a colour rendering index of 90 or above, so print, maps and photographs look true under it. The two G9 lamp holders take G9 lamps up to 60mm long. It runs on 220-240V mains, is for a qualified electrician to install, and carries a 3 year guarantee. For a balanced bedroom, we like a pair, one either side of the bed, each reading light angled towards its own pillow.
