Description

The Armada is a caged wall lantern in solid brass with an antique brass finish, built as an uplight: a clear ribbed glass dome sits uppermost on a rounded brass bowl, held inside a brass guard that arches over the top and circles its middle. It is a compact lantern, 15cm across and 21cm tall, standing 18cm from the wall on a short bracket arm, so it suits a narrow porch or a passage where a larger lantern would crowd the doorway. It is rated IP64, which means it is dust-tight and protected from splashing water, so it can stay outdoors through every season of British weather.

The maker suggests it for a porch or a walkway, and it sits just as comfortably beside a front or back door or along a garden wall. The maker also sees a place for it indoors, in a traditional pub or inn, and with its IP64 rating it can be considered for a bathroom; a qualified electrician will confirm the right zone. The maker describes the look as industrial or nautical, and we think it suits a cottage, a coastal home or a period house. The maker says the maritime influence shows in the materials, designs and even the names of the range.

Solid brass darkens and mellows outdoors, and the maker describes this finish as aged and original-looking, so it looks settled against old brick or stone from its first day on the wall. The cable enters at the rear, and the maker says the wall mount hides it, so no cable shows where the lantern meets the wall. It takes one E27 lamp, the standard screw fitting also sold as ES, which makes a replacement easy to find. As a mains light, it should be installed by a qualified electrician. A warm white lamp sits well with the antique brass and the ribbed glass.

Frequently Asked

Can the Armada wall lantern be used outdoors all year?

Yes. It is rated IP64, so it is dust-tight and protected from splashing water, which lets it stay outside through British weather on a porch, walkway or garden wall.

Can I put this lantern in a bathroom?

Its IP64 rating means it can be considered for a bathroom, and the maker mentions bathrooms as one indoor option; a qualified electrician will confirm the right zone.

What lamp does the Armada take?

It takes one E27 lamp, the standard screw fitting also called ES, so a replacement is easy to find. We suggest a warm white lamp alongside the antique brass.

How big is it?

It is 15cm across and 21cm tall, and it stands 18cm from the wall, which makes it a compact lantern for a narrow porch or passage.

Will the antique brass finish change over time?

Solid brass darkens and mellows outdoors, and the maker describes this finish as aged and original-looking, so it already has a settled colour that suits old brick and stone.

How is the cable hidden?

The cable enters at the rear of the lantern, and the maker says the wall mount hides that connection, so no cable shows at the point where it meets the wall.
