Description

The Alvara is a rectangular wall light cut from a single block of white marble with pronounced black and grey veining. The 120mm-tall block measures 80mm square in section, sitting flush against the wall as a solid stone form. An integrated COB LED housed inside the marble lights the stone from within, so the fitting itself becomes the light source rather than projecting a beam.

Designed for hallways, stairwells, bedrooms and living rooms where ambient wall light is needed without a fixed ceiling pendant, the Alvara works individually as a single wall accent or in pairs flanking a bed, mirror or doorway. Mounted in series along a corridor, the rectangular form sets up a repeating rhythm of warm light pools at head height. The compact 80mm depth keeps the fitting close to the wall, suiting narrower passageways where a deeper sconce would intrude.

Each block is cut from natural marble, so the pattern of black and grey veining differs between pieces. When unlit the stone reads as a cool white block with dramatic dark fissures; when lit, the warm glow picks out the translucent sections of the marble and the veining shows in silhouette against the lit ground. The COB LED gives an even wash across the full height of the block without visible hotspots.

Does the marble pattern vary between pieces?

Yes. Each block is cut from natural veined marble, so the distribution of black and grey veining differs from one fitting to the next. This is a feature of the natural stone rather than a manufacturing inconsistency, and pairs of Alvara wall lights mounted side by side will not look identical.

Does it come with a bulb?

The Alvara uses an integrated COB LED housed inside the marble block, so no separate bulb is required or replaceable. The full fitting is supplied ready to wire and mount.

Where on the wall should it be mounted?

For hallways and corridors a typical mounting height is 1.5-1.7m from the floor. Beside a bed, position the centre of the fitting at roughly 1.2-1.4m so the warm glow falls at reading height when seated against the headboard.

How is the marble cleaned?

Marble is porous and benefits from gentle cleaning. Wipe with a dry, soft microfibre cloth to remove dust. For marks, a barely-damp cloth with distilled water is acceptable, but avoid acidic cleaners, household sprays or abrasive pads, which can etch or stain the stone.
