The Diyas crystal floor lamp range

Diyas accounts for the heart of our traditional floor lamp range. Across the range as a whole, designs such as the Wisteria, Olivia, Tiffany, Coniston and Alexandra pair metal frames with crystal, so light catches and scatters across the room rather than sitting flat. You will find single-light styles for a quiet corner alongside three, four, five and six-light crystal columns that throw a fuller, warmer glow. Mantra, Feiss, Quoizel, Schuller and Flambeau sit alongside Diyas for buyers who want the same classic look from a different maker.

Classic finishes and shades

Finish is where these lamps earn their place in a traditional room. We stock polished chrome, polished nickel and silver for a cooler, brighter metal, plus antique brass, brass, French gold and gold where you want warmth. Several Olivia and Tiffany lamps come with a choice of fabric shades in white, cream, bronze, grey and black, so you can match the lamp to existing upholstery and curtains. Crystal-and-metal frames sit at the centre of the range, with selected designs adding glass droplets, such as the Paola, for extra sparkle. The styling reads as classic but flexible: many of these lamps carry both a traditional and a glam feel, so they suit a formal sitting room as readily as a softer, more contemporary one.

Light, fitting and dimming

Most of these lamps run warm white for a soft, relaxed light, which suits the living rooms and bedrooms they are built for. Fittings are mainly E27, with the smaller E14 on some designs, so replacement bulbs are easy to source. Many designs are dimmable, letting you drop the level for evening use; check the individual product page, as dimming depends on both the lamp and the bulb you choose. These are indoor, IP20 fittings, so keep them to dry rooms rather than bathrooms or covered porches.

Placing a traditional floor lamp

A floor lamp works hardest in the gaps a ceiling light cannot reach. Set a single-light Willow or Florence beside an armchair for reading, or use a taller multi-light crystal design to anchor a corner and lift the whole room. In a bedroom, a pair either side of the bed reads as balanced and classic; in a hallway or study, one tall lamp adds height and a point of interest. If you want matching table lamps or a crystal pendant overhead, our traditional table lamps and traditional chandeliers carry the look through the rest of the room.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a floor lamp traditional rather than modern?

Traditional floor lamps lean on classic detailing: metal frames, crystal and warm metal finishes such as antique brass, French gold and polished nickel, usually topped with a fabric shade. Our range is led by Diyas. Across the range, designs such as the Wisteria, Olivia and Tiffany are good examples, with crystal trims and shades in white, cream and bronze. Modern floor lamps tend towards plainer columns and harder lines by comparison.

Are these traditional floor lamps dimmable?

Many of them are. A large share of the range is marked as dimmable, which lets you lower the light for evening use in a living room or bedroom. Dimming depends on both the lamp and the bulb fitted, so a dimmable lamp needs a dimmable bulb to work properly. Check the individual product page before you order, as not every design in the range is dimmable.

Which rooms suit a traditional crystal floor lamp?

We tag these lamps for living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and studies, and they all share an indoor IP20 rating, so keep them to dry rooms rather than bathrooms or outdoors. A single-light design works well beside a reading chair, while a taller multi-light crystal column suits a living-room corner. In a bedroom, a matching pair either side of the bed gives a balanced, classic look.

What bulbs do these traditional floor lamps take?

Most use the larger E27 screw fitting, with some designs taking the smaller E14 instead. Both are common screw caps, so replacement bulbs are easy to find. The range is mainly warm white, which gives the soft, relaxed light these lamps are designed for. If you want to dim the lamp, pair a dimmable design with a dimmable bulb in the matching cap.
