Description

The Wellesley is a 137cm floor lamp with five hand-blown crackle glass globes mounted on a branching antique brass frame. Each globe sits at a different height on curved metal stems that rise from a central column, creating an asymmetric cluster of light sources. The lamp takes five E14 bulbs (sold separately, 7W maximum per socket) and includes a rocker switch on the base for on/off control.

Designed for living rooms, reading corners and hallways where ambient light is needed across a wide area, the Wellesley provides multi-directional light rather than focused task lighting. The five globes spread illumination across approximately 1.5-2m of floor area when positioned in a corner or beside a sofa. The 35cm-diameter base gives stability on both hard floors and rugs without requiring wall-fixing, and the 10.8kg weight prevents tipping when moved during cleaning.

The crackle glass effect comes from controlled thermal shock during the blowing process, creating a network of fine internal fractures that scatter light and soften the glow from each bulb. The antique brass finish has a darker, warmer tone than polished or brushed brass, with a slightly matte surface that reduces reflections and pairs well with mid-century, traditional and warm-toned interiors. The five globes are arranged at staggered heights between approximately 100-135cm from the floor, so the lamp works best in rooms with ceiling heights of 2.4m or above.

Frequently Asked

What bulbs does it take?

The lamp takes five E14 small Edison screw bulbs (also called SES or E14 candle bulbs), maximum 7W per socket. Bulbs are not included. Most users pair this with warm-white LED bulbs at 2700K-3000K for ambient room lighting.

What is the crackle glass effect?

The crackle effect is created during the glassblowing process by exposing the molten glass to controlled thermal shock, which creates a fine network of internal fractures. This scatters the light from the bulb and creates a softer, more diffused glow than clear glass. Each globe has a slightly different crackle pattern.

Is the lamp dimmable?

The lamp includes a rocker switch for on/off control only. Dimming capability depends on pairing the lamp with dimmable E14 bulbs and connecting it to a compatible dimmer switch via a plug-in dimmer module or rewiring to a wall-mounted dimmer circuit.

What ceiling height is needed?

The lamp stands 137cm tall with the highest globe positioned near the top. It works best in rooms with ceiling heights of 2.4m or above, so the globes sit comfortably below eye level when standing and avoid visual crowding near the ceiling.
