Five E27 lampholders sit on a single round plate that stays tight to the ceiling, finished in plain white so it settles quietly against most ceiling paint. The plate measures 25cm across, with the holders spaced evenly and each ready to take a shade of your choosing. It is a universal frame rather than a finished design: the shades are bought separately, so the same fitting can read formal, plain or playful. We keep it in stock because it answers a room that needs several light sources with no space for a drop.

Low ceilings are where it earns its place. Hallways, landings, small bedrooms and box rooms all suffer under a hanging pendant, and this holds the light close to the ceiling while spreading it across several points rather than a single spot. It suits anyone matching shades to existing fabrics or wallpaper, and it helps where one bright lamp would glare. Dimming is possible with suitable lamps and a compatible dimmer. We would use GLS lamps here in a warm output, keeping within the 20W limit for each holder.

The white finish is smooth and even, and a dry cloth run over the plate is all it usually needs once the lamps have gone cold; a barely damp cloth lifts kitchen film if a fitting sits near a hob. It needs an earthed supply and belongs indoors, in dry rooms. It carries a one year warranty. Shades and lamps are both chosen separately, which is rather the point of it. The range also runs to a smaller white flush fitting, along with polished chrome, satin nickel and antique brass in semi flush fittings and linear pendants.
