Description

Gold foil laid over the outside face, white on the inside: a plain round cylinder with straight sides, broad rather than tall, so it sits low and reads as a band of light rather than a cone. The foil catches whatever light falls on it from the room, while the white interior keeps the light passing through it clean and neutral. At 40cm across it is a generous shade, and the shallow height keeps it from crowding a lamp base.

We reach for this one where a room needs a little warmth without another piece of brass or bronze on show. It works on a pendant flex above a dining table or a hall console, and equally on a tall table lamp or a floor standard with a wide enough base to balance it. Because it is non-electrical, the lamp comes from the fitting you pair it with: a GLS A60 LED up to 20W is the sensible choice, and we would keep to a warmer white to flatter the gold. Keep it to dry rooms indoors.

The gold is a foil finish on the outer panel, with a white laminate lining behind it, so the surface is smooth and even across the whole drum. Cleaning is a matter of a light pass with a clean, dry cloth, working around the shade rather than scrubbing at it; sprays, polishes and damp cloths will mark the foil, so leave them out of it. It carries a one year warranty. We stock the same cylinder in a smaller size in both gold leaf and silver leaf, and in faux silk in black, grey and ivory pearl if you would rather have a softer surface. Lamps are not included.
