A table lamp, 50cm tall, in natural. At 35cm wide it is about the width of a laptop.

Natural sits with almost anything, which is the practical argument for it: it does not commit the room to a colour scheme the way a painted finish does. Water hyacinth is a fast-growing weed harvested, dried and braided, so using it is a use for something that would otherwise be cleared and discarded. It is lined in matching polycotton: an unlined shade throws the outline of the bulb onto the wall, a lined one turns it into an even wash. The shade is included rather than sold alongside, which is worth checking against anything cheaper.

Wiring is for 1 E27 lamp up to 10-12W LED, supplied separately. E27 is the standard screw fitting, so a replacement is a supermarket purchase rather than a specialist one. It is not dimmable, which means you choose the warmth at the bulb rather than at the switch: a 2700K bulb will do more here than a dimmer would. The cable is black, with an in-line switch you can reach without groping behind furniture, and a uk 3 pin with 3 amp fuse already fitted. The head adjusts, so you can aim the light at a book rather than a ceiling. A GLS shaped bulb, which is the word to look for on the box.
