Description

The York is a 185mm square flush porch ceiling light built from die-cast aluminium with a matt black powder-coat finish. A tapered lantern sits flush against the ceiling via a polished brass rose, housing a single B22 bulb behind four clear seeded glass panels. The glass texture softens glare while maintaining brightness across the porch surface.

Designed for covered porch ceilings, entrance canopies and sheltered outdoor zones, the York combines traditional coach-lantern styling with flush-mount practicality. The 205mm drop from ceiling to base suits porch heights of 2.1m or above, keeping the fitting clear of head height in typical residential doorways. The B22 bayonet fitting accepts any standard LED, halogen or filament bulb up to 60W, giving control over colour temperature and brightness.

The die-cast aluminium construction resists corrosion and impact better than pressed steel or plastic alternatives, and the black powder-coat finish weathers cleanly across UK coastal and urban environments. The seeded glass texture is achieved during moulding rather than etching, so the pattern runs through the entire glass thickness and does not wear off. Despite the traditional styling, the York carries only an IP20 rating and is not suitable for fully exposed positions — it requires a sheltered ceiling with protection from direct rain.

Can this be used in exposed outdoor positions?

No. The York carries an IP20 rating, which means it is not protected against water ingress. It must be fitted under a sheltered porch ceiling or canopy where it is protected from direct rain. For fully exposed positions, look for porch lights rated IP44 or higher.

What bulb does it take?

The fitting takes a standard B22 bayonet-cap bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for porch lighting.

What is seeded glass?

Seeded glass has a textured surface with small bubbles and ripples moulded into it during production. This softens glare from the bulb and gives a traditional appearance while still allowing good light output. The texture runs through the glass thickness, so it does not wear off over time.

Is the brass rose lacquered?

The polished brass ceiling rose visible in the image is typically lacquered at the factory to prevent tarnishing. Over time in coastal or high-humidity environments, the lacquer may degrade and the brass may develop a patina. This can be cleaned and re-lacquered if preferred.
