Description

This wooden wall clock hangs from a tan brown strap, so it sits on the wall with an easy look rather than pressed flat against it. Its round frame is wood in a light oak tone, wrapped around a soft grey dial with clear white numerals from 1 to 12, slim white hands and a gold-toned centre. The strap is fixed to each side of the frame with neat silver-toned studs. The clock measures 25.5cm across and 4.8cm deep, large enough to read at a glance across a room. Oak and grey make a gentle pairing: warmth from the wood, cool calm from the dial.

We like it in a hallway, where the time is the last thing you check on the way out, or in a kitchen or dining room hung from a hook above a sideboard or a shelf. The strap means one hook or peg is all it needs, and it hangs just as happily from a peg rail or a picture rail hook as from a screw in the wall. The light oak tone and grey dial sit comfortably with whitewashed walls, sage and stone shades and pale woods, and the clean numerals suit a home office or a bedroom where you want the time without fuss.

The clock runs on one AA battery, a size most homes keep in a drawer, so changing it takes moments. The strap lets the dial settle naturally: nudge the loop on its hook until the numerals sit level. To keep it looking its best, dust the frame, dial and strap with a soft dry cloth, and hang it away from direct heat and damp, as you would any wooden piece. For a relaxed finish, hang it slightly off centre above a console table with a plant or a small stack of books beside it.
