Description

The Wirnorne is a single pendant light with a domed steel shade, black on the outside and white inside, hung on a slim black cord from a round black ceiling rose. The shade measures 15.5cm across and the light is 110cm high overall, which brings the shade well down into the room rather than tucking it against the ceiling. It takes a single E27 bulb of up to 40W, and the bulb is not included, so the warmth and brightness of the light are yours to choose. It is rated IP20, which settles where it belongs: indoors and in dry rooms, never a bathroom and never anywhere outside the house.

We would hang it over a dining table, where the domed shade directs the light downwards onto the table and the meal. Its 15.5cm width keeps it in proportion over a small table, a kitchen worktop, a bedside or a narrow hallway, and a few hung in a line make a neat run over a kitchen island or a long dining table. The black and white colouring sits comfortably in a monochrome scheme, beside pale wood and white furniture, or in a room with a more industrial feel, and the white lining gives the inside of the shade a clean, bright finish.

The body is steel, and there is no switch on the light itself: it is switched at the wall, so it runs from the light switch already in the room. It works on 220-240V, 50/60Hz mains, and as a wired-in ceiling light it is installed by a qualified electrician. The installation instructions come as a download, so your electrician can read them beforehand. The packed weight is 0.675KG. As the bulb is not included, pick up an E27 bulb of 40W or less to go with it, and a warm white bulb gives a dining table a relaxed glow in the evening.
