Description

Void XXL is the largest of the Void mirrors, 105cm wide and 180cm tall, built from two overlapping panels with only part of the glass silvered. The outer panel reads as pale glass and the inner one as mirror, so the wall reads through the overlap.

At this size the construction stops being a detail and becomes the whole piece. A full length mirror that is only partly reflective gives you the height without the hardness, so it works at the end of a room where a fully silvered panel of the same size would dominate. What is behind it matters: a pale wall lets the unsilvered panel disappear and a coloured one turns the overlap into the darkest part of the mirror. It is rated bathroom proof and hangs either way up, though portrait is the usual choice at 180cm.

The panel is partly silvered glass with no frame, 3cm deep and 14kg. That is a two person hang because of the length rather than the weight, and the two screws, washers and plugs supplied want to go into something solid. Nothing needs assembling. Clean it with cleaner sprayed onto a cloth rather than at the glass. It returns less light than a plain mirror the same size, which is deliberate. Smaller Voids are made at 70cm and 175cm if the wall calls for less. At 180cm it also wants to be seen from a distance to work, so a corridor of less than about two metres will not give it the room it needs. Smaller Voids are made at 70cm and 175cm.
