Description

Void Rect. is a wall mirror 140cm high by 105cm wide, made of clear glass with precisely defined silvered areas that appear to emerge from within it. The silvered part stops abruptly on two sides rather than running to the edge, so the mirror seems to be a piece of something larger that has been cropped. The composition is asymmetric, and the clear glass around it lets the wall through, which is what makes the silvered rectangles read as floating rather than applied. The design is by Studio Segers.

It suits a hallway, a bedroom or a living room where a full rectangle of mirror would be too much reflection, and a bathroom, where it is rated to go. It hangs in four directions, which for an asymmetric composition is a genuine set of four different pieces rather than four orientations of one. The wall colour shows through the clear glass, so a strong colour changes the piece substantially. At 15kg and 2.5cm deep it is a one person lift and sits close to the wall, with two screws, washers and plugs supplied and nothing to assemble.

The mirror is partly transparent and mirrored glass with no frame and no backing board. Clean it with cleaner sprayed onto a soft cloth rather than onto the glass, and take the cloth up to the cut edge of the silvering rather than across it, since that hard line is the point of the design. The silvered areas are rectangles of different sizes rather than one block, so the composition holds together at a distance and separates into parts close up. Seven year warranty, made in Europe.
