Description

A tree skirt woven from water hyacinth, 67cm across the base and 26cm tall, drawing in towards the top so it sits close around the trunk and flares out to the floor. The weave runs in horizontal courses of thick plaited rope, each course laid tight against the one below it, over an iron frame that holds the shape. It comes in two halves that attach to each other round the tree.

At 67cm across the base it takes in the stand and the mechanics that hold a tree upright, and at 26cm tall it covers them without reaching up into the lower branches. Because it goes on in two halves it can be fitted round a tree that is already standing rather than threaded on before the tree goes up. It sits round the foot of a cut tree, with the branches falling over the top edge.

The weave is water hyacinth over an iron frame. The stems are plaited into rope before they are woven, so the colour runs from pale straw to a deeper tan across a single skirt and again from one skirt to the next. The two halves hold against each other round the trunk and nothing fixes to the tree. The tree stand is not included.
