Universal Diffuser 50cm - White & Satin Nickel

A wide, shallow disc of frosted acrylic, opal white right across the face, with a satin nickel cap set at its centre. Light passing through it arrives soft and even, without the hot spots you get from an exposed lamp. At 50cm across it is the broadest disc in the range, and the frosting is dense enough to give a gentle glow rather than a bright pool. There is no wiring, no socket and no lamp of its own: it is a plain diffuser that does one job and does it well.

We reach for this where a room wants broad, quiet light rather than something to look at. It suits hallways, landings and bedrooms, kitchens served by a single central point, and any room where seated eye level puts a bare lamp in view. The generous width gives it presence on a wide ceiling, where a smaller disc can look a little lost. We would choose the satin nickel centre where taps, handles and switch plates are already brushed rather than bright, since the finish keeps company with them instead of competing.

The panel is acrylic rather than glass, so it is light in the hand and far less brittle if knocked. The nickel detail has a satin sheen, soft-toned and low in reflection against the opal face. For cleaning, a soft cloth barely damp with warm water and a drop of washing-up liquid will lift dust and kitchen film; dry it off afterwards and keep solvents, alcohol and abrasive creams well away, as they dull acrylic and can craze it. It carries a one year warranty. Is this a complete light fitting?

No. It is a diffuser panel only, with no lamp, wiring or socket of its own. It works as part of a host fitting, which supplies the light.

How wide is it?

The disc measures 500mm in diameter and is a slim 2mm thick, making it the largest size we stock in this range.

What is it made from?

Frosted acrylic in opal white, with a satin nickel centre detail. Acrylic is lighter and more forgiving than glass of a similar span, at 0.34kg.

Will it hide the lamp completely?

The frosting is dense, so it softens and spreads the light rather than letting the lamp read as a bright point through the face.

How should I clean it?

Use a soft cloth lightly dampened with warm water and a little washing-up liquid, then dry it. Avoid solvents, alcohol wipes and scouring creams, which cloud and craze acrylic.
