Universal Diffuser 40cm - White & Satin Nickel

A frosted acrylic disc with a satin nickel centre detail, this is the part that sits over the lamps and does all the softening. The face is opal white, flat and very slim, and it reads as a plain pale circle when the light is off. At 40cm across it is one of the wider sizes in the range, yet it weighs almost nothing for its span. There is no wiring and no lamp of its own; the light source belongs to the fitting it works with, and this simply spreads what that fitting gives out.

We keep these for anyone whose ceiling fitting has a cracked, yellowed or long-since-lost diffuser, and for anyone who wants a calmer face on a fitting that has begun to glare. It earns its place in hallways, landings, kitchens and bedrooms, where a broad frosted panel washes light across the ceiling instead of dropping a hard bright spot beneath it. The nickel button at the centre gives the circle a point of focus and sits happily with brushed steel or chrome handles and switch plates elsewhere in the room. Measure the diameter of the diffuser you are replacing before you order, since the sizes are not interchangeable.

Acrylic is the sensible choice here: it holds an even frost, resists knocks better than glass and stays light. For dust, a dry microfibre cloth is all it asks. When it needs more than that, warm water with a drop of washing up liquid on a soft cloth will lift cooking film, then dry it off gently. Keep solvents, glass sprays and anything gritty well away, because acrylic marks and clouds more readily than glass. It carries a one year warranty.
