Description

This is a plain round diffuser in frosted acrylic, opal white right across the face with a small polished chrome detail at the centre. The frosting is even, so light passing through it arrives soft rather than sharp, and the chrome gives the disc a clear focal point when the light is off. It measures 40cm across, and the acrylic is slim and very light in the hand, closer to a panel than a shade.

It is a spare and a replacement part, meant to bring a tired fitting back to life when the original panel has yellowed, crazed or cracked. Hallways, landings, kitchens and bedrooms are where these tend to be found, and a fresh white face makes an older fitting look cared for again. Being non-electric, it holds no lamp of its own; that stays with the host fitting, along with its switching and control. We would measure the panel you are replacing before ordering, since the range runs in several sizes and the fit needs to be right.

The acrylic is moulded with the chrome centre set into it, and the white reads as a soft opal rather than a bright, cold white. Cleaning wants nothing stronger than warm water and a little washing-up liquid on a soft cloth, then a dry cloth to finish; solvents, spirits and abrasive creams will haze acrylic, and that cannot be undone. It carries a one year warranty. We keep the same disc with satin nickel, antique brass and black centre details, and entirely plain if you would rather no metal on the face at all, so fittings along one landing or through a run of rooms can be matched or deliberately mixed.
